PIL against notification on Jaya's cases dismissed

A division bench of the Madras high court today disposed of a public interest litigation, challenging the constitutional validity of the Centre's notification transferring the corruption cases against former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha and some of her erstwhile cabinet colleagues, being heard by three special judges to sessions courts.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice N K Jain and Justice K P Sivasubramaniam, disposed of the PIL filed by Voice, Consumer Care (council) founder trustee K M Vijayan and said the matter was sub-judice as the appeals preferred by Jayalaitha and others against the Madras high court order upholding the appointment of special judges by the state government was to be heard by the Supreme Court on February 15.

The bench said it was not proper to decide at this stage whether the Centre could issue a notification.
