India seeks aid of Taleban-friendly nations in resolving crisis

External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh today disclosed that India has sought the assistance of nations having good relations with the Taleban regime in Afghanistan to resolve the hijack crisis.

Singh's statement came in the course of a crowded press conference on Wednesday, and was in response to a question whether India has been in touch with other nations in order to resolve the crisis.

Singh also disclosed during the press meet that India has asked the Taleban chief, Mulla Omar, to end the crisis.

Questioned about the United States' statement that Kashmir was the core issue between India and Pakistan, Singh said India has sought a clarification from Washington as to the context in which it was made.

About Pakistan's role in the hijack crisis, Singh said he had spoken to his counterpart in Islamabad, Abdus Sattar, "and this is what he told me": "Pakistan will conduct itself within the four corners of the law, and whatever we do will be done transparently."
