E-Mail this report to a friend

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee late tonight reiterated that India would deal firmly with the situation created by the hijack of the Indian Airlines aircraft now in Kandahar.

Doordarshan quoted the prime minister as saying that the safety of the 155 passengers in the hijacked aircraft remained the first priority of the government.

The reaction came in the light of the demand by the hijackers for the release of 35 hardcore militants besides Masood Azhar, 35 militants in Indian jails and a sum of $ 200 million.
