'They were ruthless'

E-Mail this report to a friend

Pooja Tyagi

An eyewitness account of the hijack.

Forty five minutes into Flight 814 from Kathmandu, the hijackers took control of the plane. They ordered us to put our heads down, and cover our eyes. We were asked not to look at them. If we did so, we were warned we would be shot. They were speaking Hindi.

There was total chaos and panic on the flight. They were ruthless. I do not know how they relented and allowed us to leave. My little son and I were released, but my husband Dr Girish Tyagi is still on the flight.

Rupin Katyal, who was killed by the hijackers, was warned twice not to look at them. The third time, they shot him in cold blood.
