Desipalooza Hangama in Midwest

The Desipalooza extravaganza will be making a stop in Chicago on September 10 at the Congress Theater.

Many desi music stars will perform, among them Stereo Nation (Oh Carol and Jambo), B21 (Bally Jagpal), Rukus Avenue, TS Soundz (featuring Kickback 3 and Typhoon Asha), and Li'l Jay, featuring his long-awaited release of Lil' Jay 3.

Doors open at 7 pm and the party will continue until 3 am with Chicago's top DJs including DJ Speed of B96, DJ Bobby Kanaka, teenage heart-throbs DJ Donny Brasco and DJ Sultan, and directly from London, DJ Swami. More acts and DJs are to be announced.

Advance tickets are $ 35 for regular admission and $ 50 (VIP). Tickets are available at all Carson Pirie Scott, HotTix, Dominicks and Tower Records stores. NetIP Charity Drive

NEW YORK

NetIP North America Chapters provide a forum for individuals to come together and help not only the community in which they live, but also the community abroad.

NetIP organises events from Cry Walks/Runs, Junior Achievement programs, Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, to Celebration of Cultures, Heart and Strokes Bike Event, Educational Scholarships, to fund-raising for various causes such as leukemia, the American Cancer Society, AIDS, education and assistance to poor children in India.

The fourth quarter of every year focuses on community work. The NetIP-NA Magazine that highlights the community service events done in the fourth quarter of 1998 is now available.

Carnatic Vocal Music Concert

ST LOUIS

Nityashree Mahadevan will offer a vocal Carnatic music concert on September 18 at 3 pm and will be accompanied by Kalpana Venkat on the violin and Sivakumar on the mridangam.

The performance will take place at The Ethical Society Hall, 9001 Clayton Rd.

The event is organized by Sangeetha, which has been fostering classical music in St Louis and neighboring cities since 1984 and has presented over 80 concerts. It has hosted most of India's best-known classical singers, including M L Vasantha Kumari, Balamurali Krishna and Pandit Jasraj and instrumentalists, including Lalgudi Jayaraman, Pandit Shivkumar Sarma and Kadri Gopalnath.

Sangeetha recently elected its office bearers for 1999-2000: Ram Viswanathan, president; Sankar Raman, vice-president; Dr David J Griesedieck, secretary; Dr Kishore Udipi, treasurer; Dr Shankar Iyer, executive committee member; Amar Badrinarayanan, Karen Miller, Radhika Venkat, Vinita Joardar, and Dr Pranab Ray, executive committee members.
