Lok Sabha passes Union, Railway Budgets

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Lok Sabha has passed the Union and Railway Budgets without any amendments today.

They could not be passed yesterday as the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies had halted the House over the defection of Telugu Desam Party member of Parliament Satrucherla Vijayarama Raju to the Congress.

The non-passage of the financial bills yesterday had irked President K R Narayanan and he had summoned Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha and Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Kumaramangalam. The two ministers had assured the President that the financial bills would be passed on Thursday, averting a possible constitutional and financial crisis.

The House was adjourned sine die after the passage of the finance bills.
