DMK to support govt

E-Mail this report to a friend

The six-member Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam today announced that it would back the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government during the vote on the confidence motion in the Lok Sabha tomorrow.

The announcement was made by DMK Parliamentary Party leader Murasoli Maran while participating in the discussion on the confidence motion.

''We support Atalji and not the mother of corruption'' Maran declared in a veiled attack on the Congress trying to cobble together a majority with the help of the 18 MP AIADMK party.

Maran said his party was supporting the BJP-led coalition in the national interest and for the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu.

In a frontal attack on the Left parties, the DMK leader said they foiled the attempts made by Tamil Maanila Congress leader G K Moopanar to forge a coalition with the Congress and strengthen the United Front government only last year, but now want to instal a Congress regime at the Centre.
