E-Mail this report to a friend

Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy today held talks with All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham general secretary J Jayalalitha at her Poes Garden residence on the political developments in the wake of the latter pulling out her two ministers from the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

The meeting lasted 45 minutes.

Dr Swamy told the waiting media outside Jayalalitha's house that the Opposition commanded the support of 271 members while the Bharatiya Janata Party-led ruling coalition had 256, leaving 14 members undecided.

On Jayalalitha's demand for the dismissal of the DMK government in Tamil Nadu, he said, ''We stand by our demand.''

Asked whether he would move the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha, Dr Swamy said Jayalalitha would make a statement in this regard when she arrives in Delhi on April 12.
