E-Mail this report to a friend

A mild pre-dawn tremor rocked the Imphal valley in Manipur for a few seconds today causing panic among the people.

However, no loss of human lives and property was reported.

Official sources said the exact rating on the Richter scale could not be ascertained in the absence of a proper monitoring system.

Reports from Guwahati said an earthquake of moderate intensity rocked the city and its neighbouring areas at about 0405 hours today.

A report from Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, said a quake, measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale, rocked the town and its neighbouring areas at 0435 hours. Its epicentre was located at 24.8 degree latitude and 92.1 degree longitude towards the Bangladesh-Tibet region.

No damage to lives or property has been reported from any of the affected areas, the police said.
