RSS' 'close bar' stir turns violent, 14 hurt

E-Mail this report to a friend

Fourteen people were injured, two of them seriously, in an explosion and a subsequent attack by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh volunteers on a bar near a temple at Olari in Kerala.

The police said the explosion occurred when a procession of RSS activists approached the bar. The activists also allegedly entered the bar and attacked the bartenders with lethal weapons.

Ten of the injured were admitted to the medical college hospital and the rest to a private hospital in Olari, near Thrissur.

The police have rounded up three RSS activists and a search is on to apprehend others involved in the incident.

An agitation was launched in Olari four months ago demanding the closure of the bar because of its proximity to the Poothrikkavu temple.
