Former chief minister Laloo Prasad Yadav and several others today appeared in the designated CBI [Central Bureau of Investigation] court in connection with a case relating to the multi-million-rupee fodder scandal in Bihar.

Special Judge S K Lal fixed their next appearance for April 20.

Besides Yadav, former Union minister Chandradeo Prasad Verma, former Bihar ministers Vidya Sagar Nishad and Bhola Ram Toofani, and Rashtriya Janata Dal legislator R K Rana appeared in court.

Ten others accused in the case, including senior Indian Administrative Services officers K Arumugam, Mahesh Prasad, Beck Julius, Sajal Chakravorty and Phool Chand Singh (retired), who are in judicial custody in connection with other cases relating to the scandal, were also produced in the court.

But former chief minister Jagannath Mishra, who underwent a bypass surgery in Delhi on February 5, did not appear, on his doctor's advice.

Altogether 55 people have been indicted in the case relating to the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs370 million from the Chaibasa treasury.
