Foreign secretaries lay the groundwork for PMs' summit

The foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan, currently in Colombo for the SAARC summit from July 29, are likely to meet in advance to prepare the ground for the expected meeting on the sidelines between Prime Ministers A B Vajpayee and Nawaz Sharief.

Foreign Secretary K Raghunath and his Pakistani counterpart Shamshad Ahmed will focus on the mechanism for the resumption of dialogue.

The international community has its eyes on the results of the meeting between the two prime ministers in the context of the May nuclear blasts by India and Pakistan.

The Vajpayee-Sharief meeting is expected to take place on July 30 or 31, the last day of the summit.
