Pakistan's N-policy to be delinked from India's

Pakistan has indicated it will review its nuclear policy to delink it from India and take a decision on signing the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty independently without tying it to what India does.

A BBC Urdu Service on Tuesday reported that Pakistan's Foreign Secretary Shamshad Ahmed, who is currently in Washington, has indicated the same to US officials during his talks.

The review, according to the report, would mean that Pakistan would no longer relate its nuclear policy to India and that its decision on CTBT would be independent of what India decides.

So far Pakistan has claimed its nuclear programme is in reply to India's nuclear programme. It also claims the detonation of nuclear devices by it in May was a reaction to India's actions in Pokhran. On the CTBT, it has maintained it will sign the treaty only if India does so first.

The report, however, did not elaborate what Pakistan's nuclear policy will be like once it is delinked from India.
