Vajpayee uses a cow to get Laloo's goat

Atal Bihari Vajpayee, that remarkable man of anecdotes, used the tale of a bail-seeking cow to tie down Laloo Prasad Yadav at a Mangalore public meeting.

Apparently, Vajpayee's cow was no ordinary cow. It was educated, it read newspapers. And so one fine day it spotted an item which sent it into galloping panic. Oh god, it was going to be arrested shortly! What to do?

Now Vajpayee's cow being a well-read one, it knew about the existence of anticipatory bail. It decided to get one. So early the next morning, it presented itself in a magistrate's court in Delhi.

"What do you want?" asks the magistrate.

"Bail," replies the cow.

"Why?" asks the magistrate again.

"Because the CBI is planning to arrest everyone who has been eating fodder," says the cow, "And I eat it every single day!"

Whether the cow got the bail or not, Vajpayee didn't say. But not to worry, the audience were tickled pink! And Laloo? Well, probably hopping mad if he has come to hear about it!
