The Karunakaran committee on amending the Congress constitution has recommended 33 per cent reservation to women and 20 per cent reservation to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and minorities in party posts, and extending the tenure of members and office-bearers from two to three years.

All 16-members of the committee, which included the AICC general secretaries, took part in the final meeting of the committee held in New Delhi on Tuesday. Committee chairman K Karunakaran presided over the meeting.

The committee also provided for setting up more regional committees for the party.

Other major recommendations of the committee included expansion of the Congress Working Committee's strength from the present 21 to 25. It has also recommended an increase in the strength of the Congress parliamentary board.

The recommendations of the committee will be put before the CWC which is likely to meet this week. After approval by the CWC these would be placed before the All India Congress Committee, scheduled to be held in New Delhi on December 18, for final ratification.
