Karunanidhi's name not dropped from ATR

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's name has not been dropped from the action taken report of the Jain Commission report and the Multi-Disciplinary Monitoring Agency will go into all aspects of the Commission report, home ministry sources said tonight.

The sources were clarifying the position in the context of Union Home Minister L K Advani's letter to Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader and former Union minister Murasoli Maran. They said Karunanidhi's name has been deleted from one particular chapter of the ATR relating to the role of suspects in the assassination of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

They maintained that this did not necessarily mean that possible action against Karunanidhi by the MDMA was dropped altogether.

''The MDMA will continue to go into Mr Karunanidhi's role as mentioned in the ATR earlier,'' the sources said.
