Australian actress Cate Blanchett played Queen Elizabeth in Shekhar Kapur’s Elizabeth, a psychic in Sam Raimi’s The Gift and an elf queen in Peter Jackson’s The Lord Of The Rings trilogy.

Now, in Joel Schumacher’s Veronica Guerin, Blanchett plays a real-life journalist for Dublin’s Sunday Independent whose investigations into the drug mafia put her life in jeopardy.

To prepare for her role, Blanchett says she spoke to people close to Guerin and also watched her television shows. Her hard work paid off when the actress received a ten-minute standing ovation at the Irish premiere of the film.
