Filmmaker Jane Campion’s original choice for In The Cut was not Meg Ryan. Nicole Kidman, who worked with Campion in The Portrait of a Lady was to play the part of Professor Franny Avery.

But Kidman begged out, saying she was not emotionally equipped to handle the role, since she was going through her separation with husband Tom Cruise.

The New Zealand-born director shot most of In The Cut in Sydney, Australia, and some parts in New York City.
