Bollywood's showmen Ghai and Shah Rukh finally came together in Pardes, which was earlier titled Ganga.

Though the film was written with Madhuri Dixit in mind, Ghai introduced a new leading lady, Mahima Chaudhry, whose real name was Ritu Chaudhry.

It also introduced another actor, Apoorva Agnihotri. Unfortunately, Apoorva's career did not take off. But he is now thriving as a television actor in Sony TV's popular new serial, Jassi Jaisa Koi Nahin.

Pardes was a hit in India, but did not reach the heights of Ghai's earlier releases. It, however, was the first Ghai movie to do exceptionally well overseas.
