The film: Pinjar is about a Hindu woman's (Matondkar) trials and tribulations as she is forced to marry a Muslim (Bajpai). The film is set against the backdrop of the Partition.

The man: A trained doctor, Chandraprakash Dwivedi had directed the popular television serial, Chanakya. His next serial Ek Aur Mahabharat did not win as many laurels. Dwivedi based his film on Amrita Pritam's novel of the same name.
