This time, when offers from Bollywood poured in, Ash didn't turn them down. But it was Mani Ratnam's Tamil film, Iruvar (The Duo, 1997), that was her first release. She also starred in her first Hindi film, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, with Bobby Deol, and took home the Screen Best Female Debut Award for her role as Aashi.

She went on to act in Shankar's Jeans and Rishi Kapoor's Aa Ab Laut Chalen. The films didn't do well, though Ash's popularity continued to soar.
