Multiple screening

Komal Nahta

That the industry is on tenterhooks due to the dearth of big releases with sustaining power is by now common knowledge.

What is, perhaps, lesser known is the fact that distributors have now started thinking in terms of sharing the cinema with each other, so that they don't have to pay deficit to the cinema owner because of poor collections.

As a result, even a big cinema in Bombay is forced to screen five different films everyday for an entire week! The dubious distinction has been bagged by Novelty cinema, Grant Road, where this week's schedule literally reads one day ka five!

The five films being screened at Novelty are Mission Kashmir (matinee), Officer (3 pm), Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi (6 pm), Vertical Limit (8.30 pm) and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (10.45 pm).

Thankfully, things will return to normal from March 30, with the release of One 2 Ka 4.
