THE NEW CHIEF: Yaga Venugopal Reddy on Saturday took charge as the 21st governor of India's central bank for a five-year period.
A 1964 batch Indian Administrative Service officer, it is a happy homecoming for the new RBI chief, who had joined the International Monetary Fund after a six-year stint as the RBI Deputy Governor in charge of Monetary Policy.
Sir Osborne A Smith was the governor of RBI, who took over the post on April 1, 1935 and was the bankers' banker till June 30, 1937.
