INDIA'S STRATEGY: Even as the BPO backlash rises in the West, India's premier IT lobby National Association of Software and Service Companies - Nasscom - has launched a concerted campaign to counter the slew of anti-outsourcing laws in the US arguing economic benefits will far outweigh the political concerns.

India feels that the spate of bills in the US against outsourcing are politically motivated and not a 'backlash' against Indian firms. It is due to sluggish economic conditions in the US, says Nasscom.

In the last few months, legislations to block outsourcing of government contracts to slash the number of L1 and H1-B visas have been introduced by US lawmakers.

Meanwhile, reports say that an alliance of Indian officials, business groups and powerful Indian-Americans have launched a campaign in the US to counter allegations that India was taking away high-end US jobs.
