Dhirubhai's funeral procession reaches Chandanwadi crematorium

Photo: Reuters/Arko Datta The flower-decked truck carrying the mortal remains of Reliance Industries patriarch Dhirubhai Ambani, which began from Sea Wind, his residence, has reached the Chandanwadi crematorium in Mumbai.

The procession passed through S K Patil Udyan, Maharshi Karve Road, Oppn Marine Lines Station.

Many VIPs and film stars accompanied the procession.

Sons Mukesh and Anil carried the body on their shoulders inside the crematorium, where the last rites would be held.

The whole city came to a standstill as hundreds of people came to bid farewell to the man credited with building one of the largest companies in the world.

Heavy police bandobast

The authorities had pressed into service dozens of cops to maintain security at the Ambani residence where hundreds of people had gathered to pay homage to the departed entrepreneur.

Elaborate arrangements were made and traffic police deployed to ensure smooth a traffic flow.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal visited the hospital and paid his tribute to the departed soul.

A prayer meeting was held soon after the body was brought to the residence.

Bhujbal told media persons that the business leader's death was a big blow to the industry.

Expressing profound grief over Ambani's death, he said that the Reliance chairman was not only a great businessman but also a wonderful human being.
