Train fares inreased

What: Service tax on food has been added to your train fare.

Details

~ Service tax is applicable on the catering service provided by Indian Railways in all its trains, including the Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains.

~ A service tax up to 6.12 percent has been levied on the food component of the mobile catering service in railways with effect from of April 1, 2006.

~ The fare of Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains (which includes catering charges) and the cost of catering service in other trains have been increased marginally.

~ The basic fare for Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express trains remains the same.
