What: To tap the growing demand of the Indian healthcare industry, the Kovai Medical Centre Research and Educational Trust has tied up with Philadelphia's Saint Joseph's University to offer an 18-month Master's programme in health and hospital administration.
Nalla G Palaniswami, chairman and managing director, KMCRET, said the course aims to produce trained
professionals in hospital administration.
The Indian healthcare industry, worth $20 billion, is estimated to employ over four million people.
About the course
~ Students will undergo a 12-week study course.
~ They will have observational trips with practical training at US-based hospitals.
~ The programme consists of 12 core courses:
- Healthcare organisation
- Halthcare informatics
- Acounting for healthcare organisations
- Fnancial anagement of healthcare organisations
- Mnaged healthcare
- Health services research
- Ethics of healthcare
- Healthcare policy
- Healthcare administration
~ The faculty of Saint Joseph's University will teach six of the above courses.
~ They will also conduct an intensive faculty development programme for the KMCRET faculty, which will equip the Indian faculty to teach the remaining six courses.
~ The course is expected to commence in July.
~ Thirty students will be enrolled for this course.
Fees
The tuition fee of the course is Rs 4.34 lakh.
It excludes travel, boarding and lodging costs in the United States and Coimbatore.
