The international stint

Within two months, I got a call to work in The Lord Of The Rings -- Return Of The King.

This call came to me at a time when many people had written me off in India. I had won the National Award, but didn't have the financial or manpower support. I didn't get any film after Aalavandhan. It was only much later that I got to work on Rajanikanth's Baba.

A hardware vendor wanted to sell us a Silicon Graphics machine. This was during the time the second Lord Of The Rings was being shot in New Zealand.

To convince us about the machine, the vendor took me to New Zealand to demonstrate how it was used by the technical team on the film.

I went there. I met the director of the film [Peter Jackson] and spent about 10 days with them.

I noticed there were technicians from all over the world, but not a single Indian. I suggested they ask some Indians to work with them too!

When the film was released, I wished I had at least some portion of the film to work on.

I wanted to prove that Indians could provide the same quality of work, if not better.

I got a chance to prove it as a visual effects producer in the third Lord Of The Rings.
