Different strokes!
It could be her ebbing popularity or her marriage. But the fact is that celebrated painter M F Husain's ardour towards Madhuri Dixit has cooled down -- notably. So, where is it focused now? Well, not too far -- at arch rival Juhi Chawla's smiling face. Ever since he was invited for the premiere of Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Husain seems to have changed his tune. A few days after the show, he is said to have painted a mural of Juhi with the film as the backdrop. If he has not painted anything after that, it is only because Juhi did not exactly gush over the piece of art. But then, that has not stopped the artist from chasing Ms Chawla.
Esha Deol: the question remains
Which will be Esha Deol's debut film? That is the million dollar question. Though a source close to Hema Malini insists that it will be Boney Kapoor's film and that the delay is only because the girl is being groomed for stardom, a little bird tells us that Hema is not too happy with the choice of the two heroes -- Aftab Shivdasani and Sanjay Kapoor. Is that the reason why Boney has been looking out for new girls, albeit discreetly?
Same old Govinda
A leopard never changes its spot and Govinda his ways. Sad but true. He was cooperation personified all through the shooting of Jackie Shroff's home production, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hai. As mentioned in this column earlier, he didn't bunk a single day of shooting which was held in Hyderabad. In fact, Govinda's professional behaviour almost shocked everybody. But then when it came to the tail end of the shooting, he began to show his true colours. At a recent shooting schedule of the film, which was to be held in Mahabaleshwar, Govinda just did not turn up. The heroines, Sonali Bendre and Rinke Khanna were getting irritated, whiling away time, while director Mahesh Manjrekar almost burst a nerve. But alas, there was no sign of Govinda.

While on Govinda and his troublesome ways, one must admit that he is democratic. If he troubles other producers and directors, Govinda does not spare his own brother either. It is a known fact that the shooting of his home production has been cancelled innumerable times. Not many know that one of the reasons for the film's delay is that a number of the distributors and financiers have walked out of the project due to Govinda's indifference towards his home production.
All's fair in mohabbat
Nothing is permanent in the film industry. Neither friends nor enemies. We had mentioned in sometime back how Ashish Singh and Kundan Shah, producer and director respectively of Hum To Mohabbat Karega, had sworn to have nothing to do with their heroine, Karisma Kapoor, for harassing them for dates towards the end of the shooting. But at the party thrown for the music launch, Karisma walked in. Obviously, the warring parties seemed to have patched up. And it didn't take too long to guess who have brought the two back together. None other than the chief guest at the do, Abhishek Bachchan, who is said to be a close buddy of the producer. The rest is up to you readers to figure out.
Suman: Dance till you drop
Suman Ranganathan might end up being just a song queen. But unlike Raveena, who appears in items opposite heroes, Suman has been doing numbers which make her look like a glorified extra. Or like the vamps of yesteryear who were brought in for a titillating number alone. In Badal, Suman danced in front of the villain, Ashutosh Rana, and in the recent underproduction Mahesh Manjrekar film, she once again does a number which was akin to the cabarets performed years ago by the likes of Padma Khanna or Helen. Well, dancers like to rise to the rank of heroines or parallel heroines through sheer hard work, but here is Suman who is doing the opposite, moving down to being a dancer after making her debut as heroine.
Did you know...
That the original cast of Silsila had Amitabh Bachchan in the lead opposite Smita Patil and Padmini Kolhapure? Padmini was screentested and approved of until there was change in script and Parveen Babi was roped in. And then came this major casting coup! Though Smita was already on location and Parveen was about to fly down there, an urgent meeting was called where the changes were suggested. Parveen was asked to stay back, Smita was flown back and Rekha and Jaya Bachchan flew down instead. How did this happen? Only Yash Chopra and Amitabh can tell, but will they?
