Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu early on Tuesday afternoon conceded defeat and congratulated the Congress-Telangana Rajya Samithi combine for its great performance in the assembly election.

When Naidu was addressing mediapersons in Hyderabad, 135 results were out and the Congress-TRS alliance had bagged 109. Naidu's Telugu Desam Party had won only 20 and others six.

He said his party will extend support any new initiative that the new government would take.

Terming the TDP's rout as 'unexpected', Naidu sounded unrepentant about the reforms his government had initiated and promised to play a 'positive and constructive role' in the opposition.

"We did our best for the state's development. I worked hard to develop Andhra Pradesh as a model state. I have no regrets. I fully accept the people's mandate and will support good policies of the new (Congress) government," he told reporters in Hyderabad.

He insisted that the TDP-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance worked well at the ground level that his party would remain with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.

However, he said it was too early to discuss the reasons for the defeat. "We will review the party's performance and come back to you giving reasons for our defeat. We need to analyse whether people merely voted for change or any other reasons influenced their decision," he said.

The TDP, which went to the polls on the development and performance planks, had 180 seats in the dissolved assembly, its ally BJP 12 and Congress 91.
