On the eve of polling in Chhattisgarh, police arrested Bharatiya Janata Party leader Dilip Singh Judeo's son, Yudhveer Judeo, for allegedly disturbing the peace in Jashpur district while a Congress worker was gunned down in Bilaspur.
The Chhattisgarh police on Sunday arrested Yudhveer Judeo along with 20 supporters on the charge of disturbing the peace in some areas of Jashpur district.
Jashpur Superintendent of Police M P Choudhary told PTI over phone that Yudhveer and his supporters were arrested from the outskirts of the Jashpur district headquarters following complaints by several people and political workers opposed to Judeo.
He and the others were not allowing flags of parties other than the BJP to be put on vehicles and allegedly deflated the tyres of some vehicles and broke their windshields, the SP said. Yudhveer is yet to be produced before a magistrate, he added.
Meanwhile, a worker of the ruling Congress was on Sunday shot dead in the home district of Chief Minister Ajit Jogi.
Mustaq Khan was coming out of the Dayal Bandh election office of the party in Bilaspur when some car-borne unidentified assailants shot him from close range, Congress candidate from Bilaspur Anil Tah told PTI.
Khan died on way to hospital, Tah added. Congress workers gathered there raised anti-police slogans. Bilaspur Additional Police Superintendent Akbar Ram Korram told PTI the police are yet to ascertain the motive behind Khan's killing or identify the assailants.
The Congress and BJP traded charges over the killing, which came on the eve of the assembly elections.
Tah alleged that the incident was a step by the opposition to create terror among the people while the BJP's sitting MLA Amar Agrawal said it was an 'old habit' of the Congress to politicise all matters.
NCP candidate and former minister B R Yadav said such a crime had taken place for the first time in the history of polls in Bilaspur.
