Declaring the decision of the Madhya Pradesh Government to supply free electricity to farmers as a violation of the model code of conduct, the Election Commission on Monday directed the state government to postpone the proposal till the assembly polls are over.
The Commission felt that the proposal announced by the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Board in September was to come to effect from November, after the model code of conduct came into effect, EC sources said.
Earlier some people also filed a public interest litigation in the which left the issue to the EC.
The Commission is likely to appraise the Jabalpur high court, which is hearing a petition in the connection, of its decision on Tuesday.
