Meet the Contenders
Desmond Haynes
The 49-year-old was one of the top openers in his playing days. He along with Gordon Greenidge formed a lethal opening pair and was the cornerstone of many great West Indies victories.
He scored around 7,000 runs in both versions of the game with 35 centuries to his credit. He was a key member of the West Indies team since making his Test debut in 1978.
Though Haynes has no top level coaching qualifications, he had several stints with English Counties as well as in South Africa.
His first coaching assignment was with English county Sussex between 1996 to 1999. Then he served as the batting coach for Hampshire. In 2002, he took over the role of the batting coach for Barbados.
Though inexperienced, Haynes is hugely talented, and will hope to turn around the fortunes of the team with a bit of Calypso magic.
Will India find the right coach?
