Srinath retires

Javagal Srinath retired from international cricket.

The 34-year-old fast bowler, who spearheaded India's bowling attack for almost 13 years, had hinted at retirement after the World Cup in South Africa, where he had a fine tournament, picking 16 wickets.

Earlier, he had announced his retirement in June 2002 after a dismal tour of the Caribbean. But Srinath returned for the home series against the West Indies in October 2002. And though he skipped the Test series against New Zealand in December, he participated in the one-day series and the World Cup.

Srinath played 67 Tests and taken 236 wickets, including 10 five-wicket hauls with a career-best 8 for 86 against Pakistan. In 229 one-dayers, he bagged 315 wickets.
