CRICKET Mobs target cricketer' homes Cricketers are living dieties in India. But mob passion has an underside, which the Indian cricketers learnt the hard way. After Australia humiliated India in the World Cup on February 15, irate fans in India took to the streets, burning effigies of the players and holding demonstrations. Mohammad Kaif's home in Allahabad was defaced with black paint and motor oil. Dozens of cricket fans shouted slogans outside captain Sourav Ganguly's home in Kolkata. Only after Sachin Tendulkar issued a statement, promising fans of better performances, did the hullaballoo die down. India went on to win its next eight matches to enter the World Cup final.
