  • Scorecard | Match report | Images
  • Robin Peterson became the 70th player to appear for South Africa in Limited Overs Internationals.

  • Makaya Ntini became the 19th South African and 243rd player overall to appear in 50 or more LOIs.

  • Appearing in his 75th match as captain, Sourav Ganguly became the second Indian (after M Azharuddin - 5239 runs in 174 matches) and the ninth overall to aggregate 3000 runs in LOIs as captain. Ganguly now has 3010 runs.

  • Playing in his 8th match, the wicket of Virender Sehwag was Jacques Kallis’ 15th in the ICC championships since 1998. He now becomes the highest wicket-taker in this tournament. He goes past the tally of 14 wickets in 6 matches by West Indian Merv Dillon.

  • During his knock of 49, Rahul Dravid became the fourth Indian after Sachin Tendulkar (1326 runs in 41 matches), Mohammad Azharuddin (1109 runs in 33) and Sourav Ganguly (1093 runs in 23) to aggregate 1000 runs against South Africa. Dravid now has 1014 runs in 27 matches.

  • Dravid, also became the seventh batsman in LOIs to aggregate 1000-plus runs against South Africa. The others are all Australians - Steve Waugh (1581 runs in 47 matches), Michael Bevan (1163 in 35) and Mark Waugh (1111 in 42).

  • The three wickets by Shane Pollock has taken his tally of wickets as captain to 95 in 71 matches. Now only Pakistanis Wasim Akram (158 wickets in 109 matches) and Imran Khan (131 in 139 matches) have more wickets than Pollock while leading their respective sides.

  • The three catches by Yuvraj Singh equals the fielding record for the most catches in a match by a fielder against South Africa. This feat has been achieved by six other fielders - Sri Lankan Roshan Mahanama (in 1993), Pakistani Salim Malik (in 1994), Indian Mohammad Azharuddin (in 1996), Australian Michael Bevan (in 1998), Sri Lankan Marvan Atapattu (in 1998) and Zimbabwe Andy Whittall (in 1999).

  • Gibbs (116) became the first batsman in LOI history to retire hurt/ill after recording a three figure innings. The previous highest individual score by a batsman who had to retired hurt/ill was by Pakistani Zahid Fazal (98) also against India at Sharjah on 25-10-1991.

  • The 178 run partnership between Gibbs and Jacques Kallis was South Africa’s best for the second wicket against India. The pair betters the previous best of 120 runs between Gary Kirsten and Daryll Cullinan at Hamilton (New Zealand) on 18-2-1995.

  • The above partnership was also the highest for the second wicket in the tournament since 1998, obliterating the previous best of 175 runs between Englishmen Alec Stewart and Nasser Hussain against Bangladesh at Nairobi on 5-10-2000.

  • Kallis during his knock of 97 became the third highest run-getter for South Africa. He went past the aggregate of late Hansie Cronje (5565 runs in 188 matches). Kallis now has 5583 runs in 158 matches. Only Gary Kirsten 6498 runs in 177 matches and Jonty Rhodes 5692 runs in 233 matches have made more runs for South Africa.

  • During his above innings, Kallis became the highest run scorer for this calendar year with an aggregate of 885 runs in 23 matches. He went past the tally of 870 runs (in 28 matches) held by Pakistani Younis Khan.

  • Kallis’ dismissal on 97 meant that South Africa missed the opportunity of registering two individual hundreds in the same match for the fourth time. Interestingly, South Africa had achieved this feat against India once before - when Kirsten and Gibbs made 115 and 111 respectively at Kochi on 9-3-2000. However South Africa went on to lose the match by three wickets.
