Pakistan sack coach
Mudassar Nazar

Pakistan cricket coach Mudassar Nazar has been sacked after a string of poor performances by the team.

A Pakistan Cricket Board official said on Tuesday that South Africa-based coach Richard Pybus would be visiting Pakistan later this week and is a possible replacement.

"Mudassar has been released as national team coach. The ICC Champions Trophy was his last assignment with the team," PCB media manager Khalid Butt said.

Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka in the opening game of the one-day tournament by eight wickets.

Pybus coached the Pakistan team until he left for security reasons after the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.

Butt confirmed Pybus is being considered for the job. He worked with Pakistan in the 1999 World Cup final when Pakistan lost to Australia.

Nazar's sacking came after he met PCB chairman Lieutenant General Tauqir Zia to brief him on the recent poor performances of the team.

Pakistan have lost six of their last 10 one-day internationals.
