Letter of the Day

October 23, 2001
The right wicketkeeper

There seems to be a debate about the right wicketkeeper for India and here is my candidate. Vijay Dahiya.

Has he done anything that demands his exclusion from the team? He was dropped from the Indian side after the ICC trophy and oldie Saba Karim was included. All we found out was that Karim's eye-sight isn't too good. Then Dahiya was bought back for the series at home against Zimbabwe.

Against Australia, Nayan Mongia was bought back and was dropped in favour of Sameer Dighe another oldie for the 3rd test. Dahiya was bought for the one day series again. He scored a great half-century in the 1st ODI at Bangalore and took the Indian total past 300.

These days it is said that the Indian tail is like the dobberman's tail, who has no tail (thank you Sidhu for this remark!!!!), why not a have good batsman like Dahiya?? His keeping is also satisfactory. Nobody except Mongia can keep do a good job behind the stumps for India and we don't want Mongia right??

Signed
Ameya Desai.
