Letter of the Day

November 19, 2001
Ganguly's high horse

It is high time to put things in the right perspective. I know what I am going to say will not please my countrymen from the east, but the truth is that the so-called 'Prince of Calcutta' is now a pauper when it comes to handling the rich talent at his disposal.

This, not because he is not intelligent, but because of his arrogance gained from the home series win over the Aussies. Can anybody deny that a team that has Dravid, Sachin, Laxman, Das, Srinath, Harbhajan and Kumble ( I have deliberately missed out the captain since on current form he is in the side only because he happens to be the captain!)?

It's high time that Sourav gets off the high horse (which he strode after the win over the Aussies) and nurture, utilize the amount of talent at his disposal. Don't get me wrong. I used (note the past tense) to be a fan of Sourav until recently. Aggression needs to be shown as and when required and against your opponents - not against your team mates!!

Hopefully the selectors will realize this soon and make Dravid (who in my view is a sensible, thinking bloke) the captain, if we do not want to have the ignominy of being beaten at home by the Pommies!

Signed
Ranagrajan Raghavan
