Letter of the Day

November 8, 2001
Does Sachin play for records?

Many people have said time and again that Tendulkar is not a match winner. Is it not high time we start pointing a finger at those who do not play rather than those who really do? Just imagine this Indian team without Sachin playing for records (assuming he does), which means he stops scoring at the same rate as he does now.

He just scored 155 at Bloemfentein and we lost in 4 days. Wonder what would have happened if he hadn't? Maybe a three, two or even a one day match. It is high time we account for the performance of the others. One score of 281 must not guarantee a Test place. It is time somebody asked Ganguly where his next run will come from. All in all, time to wake up and pinch the rest on the backside and get things going, before Sachin decides to really stop scoring.

Time to realise that it needs 11 players to build a team and the same 11 to win.

Signed
Srinivas Krishnaswamy
