Hayden to stay for one-dayers

Opening batsman Matthew Hayden was on Wednesday included in Australia's one-day squad for the five-match series against India, commencing on Sunday, March 25.

The left-hander, who was to return to Australia after the Test series, has been asked to stay back following his tremendous form with the bat in the ongoing Test series. He will be the team's 15th member.

Hayden has so far amassed 521 runs, including a double- century and a hundred, in five innings, a record for an Australian in a three-match series, and has been able to tackle the spinners with ease.

Australia team media manager Brian Murgatroyd said Hayden has been retained in the side because of his brilliant form and the fact that he has adapted well to Indian conditions.

Australia had earlier announced a 14-member one-day squad replacing five players, including Hayden.

Michael Bevan, Andrew Symonds, Ian Harvey, Darren Lehman and Nathan Bracken will join the team for the one-dayers while Michael Slater, Justin Langer, Colin Miller and Michael Kasprowicz will fly back to Australia after the Test series ends on Thursday.
