Letter of the Day

8 August, 2001
Salute you Ganguly!

Things have been hard on you, in terms of your recent form, repeated failures and the controversies. I am from Mumbai and a die hard fan of Mumbai cricket for its never saying die attitude, but you have scored a one up against us. You have rediscovered the tremendous talent in Yuraj Singh and Virendra Shewag. You are the true captain.

You gave confidence to Harbhajan and made a man of Harbahajan. Also the other Singh, Man of the Match for U-15 and U-19 World Cup finals, Ritender Singh Sodhi is no poor man's Kapil, he is Kapil himself. Give him a longer run and a better oppotunity and he will live up to the country's expectation. He is a man who will fight a rattle snake and emerge triumphant.

The team looked perfectly balanced to me for the first time in a decade. There have been a 101 instances of India needing 25 runs with 5 wickets in hand and having lost with 10-15 runs in the end. This was purely due to the fact of the last 5 batsmen never knew how to handle the willow. There was no difference in the bowling attack in the one-dayers and Test matches.

Things will start looking up for this one-day side as soon as Sachin is back but you have to take the responsibility of winning the World Cup in South Africa.

Signed
Sujit Salunkhe
