Wipro Net offers rental ERP online

Email this story to a friend.

Wipro Net, the joint venture between Wipro and Royal Dutch Telecom that provides Internet solutions to over 800 corporate customers, has launched India's first application service, offering Makess-on-the-Net Enterprise Resource Planning software through a monthly rental service on the Internet.

"All the customer needs is an Internet account and a PC with a Java-enabled web browser," said Nirmala Kamath, Marketing Manager, Wipro Net.

Kamath said this way Wipro Net could reach customers in any part of the country. They have also not placed any restriction on the number of users within a company, she said.

Conventionally, setting up the ERP infrastructure with servers, networks, and the ERP software is expensive. Makess-on-the-Net ERP, a product from Eastern Software Systems Limited, is a solution based on Makess ERP and is allegedly applicable to both small and large companies.

"Virtually any organization, regardless of their size, can benefit from the ERP functionality by spending a few thousand rupees and not worry about large scale investments or retaining expensive technical manpower," said Sanjay Agarwala, director, ESS Limited.

The Makess-on-the-Net offering is built on a three-tier architecture and differs from other ERP solutions in that it requires only a thin client at the customer end.

Using a dial-up Internet account, companies can access the application and database server located at Wipro Net's Network Management Center. Data is uploaded into the database server using the application server.

The data resides in a secure database server that is managed and maintained 24 hours a day, seven days a week by Wipro Net.

Using the application server, customers can then generate MIS reports and automate their internal processes, a Wipro Net press release said.

According to it, this solution also applies to companies that wish to integrate their channel partners into their information system to monitor stock levels, sales etc from their central information system.

ESS has also developed gateways that link Makess into higher-end solutions like SAP, Oracle Financials and BPCS.
