Email this report to a friend

The world's largest airline, United Airlines teamed up with The Chatterjee Group on a Rs 4.2 billion project to set up a state-of-the-art software development centre in the country.

Talking to journalists in Calcutta, Senior Vice-President of United Airlines Bruce Parker said initially the centre, called Skytech Solution, the fifth of its kind and the first outside the United States, would cater to the needs of United Airlines. In future, it would also work with Star Airlines, a conglomerate of eight airlines.

Parker said the joint venture between United Airlines and TCG would be located at one of the most sophisticated facilities in the country and added that the Skytech would begin with more than 50 professionals on day one and would grow to 200 within 18 months.

The centre would open a new vista in the career opportunities for Indian software professionals and provide ample opportunity to develop new skill sets, he hoped.

"We want this joint venture to be profitable from the day one," Parker averred.
