How the government earns and spends every rupee

The government spends 27paise from every rupee earned on interest repayments while 14paise go towards defence expenses. How the govt earns a rupee

Another 14paise are paid back to the states as their share of taxes and duties.

The government spends almost 13paise each on central plan and other non-plan expenditure. About 10paise are spent as assistance to states and Union territories while seven paise go towards subsidies.

The fund allocation is exclusive of plan outlays met from the resources of public enterprises.

On the income side, the government earns 20paise from excise, 15paise from customs duties, eight paise from income tax and nine paise from corporate tax. Other taxes amount to two paise.

Non-tax revenue contributes almost 15paise and non-debt capital receipts six paise while borrowings and other liabilities account for 25paise.
