National Foundation for Innovators to 'unleash creative potential'

Email this report to a friend

The post-Pokhran II 'Jai Vigyan' slogan coined by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been concretised in the 1999-2000 Budget through a National Foundation for Innovators.

''The time has come to unleash the creative potential of our scientists and innovators at the grassroots level,'' Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha said while presenting the Budget in the Lok Sabha today.

He said a fund with an initial corpus of Rs 200 million would build a national register of innovations, mobilise intellectual property protection and convert innovations into business opportunities.

The Budget also identified new vaccines and bio-diversity conservation as priority areas.

A National Bio-resources Board is to be set up under the chairmanship of the minister for science and technology.
