Rs 586.9 million allotted for ministers' salary, travel and office expenses

The government has earmarked a total of Rs586.9 million in the annual Budget to meet expenditure on the salary, travel and office expenses of the Union Council of Ministers, including the prime minister and his office.

Of the total, Rs390 million has been allotted to meet the cost incurred on the ministers' travel. Rs91.1 million has been allotted for expenses on the prime minister's office.

The Special Protection Group, which provides security to the prime minister, former prime ministers and members of their immediate family, has been allocated Rs 800 million this year.

This is a marginal cut of Rs 41.7 million. In 1998-99, the SPG had been allocated Rs841.7 million.
