ACC, Telco, Tisco, ITC, SBI make smart gains; Sensex up 84 points to 4705.13

Pivotals posted smart gains at the Bombay Stock Exchange as the bull run continued unabated at the country's premier bourse for the third straight day, pushing the Sensex up by 84 points past the 4,700 mark today.

The rally was mainly witnessed in the pivotals and side counters, dealers said, and described that cyclical stocks and the pivotals were in the limelight on heavy buying by foreign institutional investors.

Cement giant ACC, steel major Tisco, banking major SBI, auto major Telco and tobacco and hotel major ITC posted handsome gains during the day, dealers said.

Reflecting the bullish phase, the 30-share BSE Sensitive Index opened at 4648.27 points (day's low), touched the day's high of 4729.38 points, before closing at 4705.13 points, showing a net gain of 83.84 points or 1.81 per cent from the previous close of 4621.29 points.

The Sensex has registered a whopping gain of 217.26 points in the last three consecutive sessions.

The broad-based BSE-100 index rose sharply by 38.13 points to 2110.14 points as against the previous close of 2072.01 points.

Dealers also attributed the bullish phase on the BSE to the ongoing firm trend in the overseas market. The Hang Seng Index at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the Nikkie index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange too witnessed remarkable gains during last couple of trading sessions, they added.
