Smart gains by pivotals pushes Nifty up 13 points to 1322.70

Pivotals gained smartly on good buying support from institutional investors and local operators at the National Stock Exchange today.

Mirroring the uptrend, the S&P CNX Nifty index opened at 1310.30 points, touched the day's high of 1327.90 points, a low of 1310.30 points, before closing at 1322.70 points, showing a net gain of 12.80 points or 0.97 per cent from the previous close of 1309.90 points.

The S&P CNX Nifty Junior shot up by 46.85 points to 2446.90 points as against the previous close of 2400.05 points.

The shares which staged a handsome rally and even hit the upward circuit-filters were Global Telesystems, Telco, Himachal Futurstic, Ashok Leyland, Sterlite and BSES.

The market witnessed a bullish phase despite the last day of current settlement on heavy buying spree by operators, dealers said.

As many as 880 securities advanced, 288 declined, 41 remained unchanged during the course of trading.

Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day stood at Rs 23.44 billion, which came from a trading of 119.68 million shares in 409,142 trades. Debentures traded were valued at Rs 16.17 million.
