Hyundai flies dealers to Korea in run-up to LC launch, seeks to sharpen focus on India

Email this report to a friend

Hyundai Motor Company of Korea has identified India as one of its major overseas investment destinations and expects the country to be among the largest overseas markets after the United States for its cars next year.

Towards this end, the company is now preparing to launch its second offering within one year. The new car, code-named the LC, would be positioned in the mid-size segment.

Hyundai Motor India Limited, the wholly-owned subsidiary of HMC, has kicked off the launch preparations for the LC by taking its entire dealer fraternity to Korea for a special unveiling of the car.

All the 70-odd HMIL dealers in India will spend a month visiting the various manufacturing facilities of Hyundai Motors in Korea as also test drive the car. They would be sensitised to the company's sales and marketing plan for the car.

The international launch of the LC is scheduled for September 14, 1999, at the Frankfurt Motor Show where the car will be unveiled and its name for the international markets announced.

Separate country-specific launches of the LC, including in India, will follow soon after the international launch.

HMIL has crossed the 35,000 sales mark in India. Its total cumulative sales of Hyundai Santro touched 35,281 units as on July 31, 1999.

To be able to meet surging customer demand and reduce the waiting period for the car, the company has already started second shift production at its Madras plant from last month.
